Valet Parking

Its Impact on the Neighborhood

Cathedral Bonds

What’s All the Fuss About?

Join discussion of several issues that have aroused considerable interest within our community.

1)  Valet parking – a great convenience for some – is in a never-never land of city regulation.  Who’s in charge?  Where can cars be parked?  Who pays if your car is ticketed, towed, or stolen?  What would be the impact on the neighborhood if many restaurants used valet parking?  Can we encourage greater use of Metro?  How is valet parking handled elsewhere?  The Department of Transportation is taking a fresh look at the issue.  Alice Kelly, policy analyst for the Public Space Management Administration, and others will bring you the latest information.

2)  The National Cathedral has applied for a tax-free bond to refinance the new National Cathedral School athletic center.  The City Council normally seeks community support before approving such requests.  The Cathedral sought prompt endorsement by local groups and the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) to take advantage of low interest rates.  During the summer, CPCA’s executive committee adopted a resolution to make support contingent on a commitment by the Cathedral Foundation to negotiate some long-standing issues with its neighbors. That vote is up for ratification at this meeting.  (ANC 3C recently voted to make its support for the bond contingent on similar commitments by the Foundation.)

3)  Updates on the National Child Research Center’s BZA hearing on 9/16, and a planned 50th Anniversary celebration of the Cleveland Park Library.
