Tregaron Redux Once again the wooded Tregaron tract between Macomb Street and Klingle Road is being considered for new home development. A somewhat stormy meeting between neighbors, Arnold and Porter lawyers, representing the owner/developer, and an award-winning Seattle architect team took place Friday morning, December 12. The temperature in the chilly Cleveland Park Library room rose quickly when the residents were told that the developer would be seeking concept approval by the DC Historic Preservation Commission as soon as January. Given the mandated approvals cycle, the January date was seen by some as problematic. The neighbors viewed a rough sketch of the project and a scale model designed to demonstrate sensitivity to the woodland setting, with seventeen contemporary homes screened by existing trees and providing for underground garages. Residents raised questions about possible hydrology issues, and were told that no studies had been done. The proposed development is considerably more modest than some that have fallen before community opposition in the past. |
