A New Voice For Cleveland Park

We are Cleveland Park residents who have come together to transform the Cleveland Park Citizens Association (CPCA) into a 21st century organization committed to complete transparency, broad participation, and open decision making. We believe that the CPCA’s leadership has failed to represent the community, or even its own membership, as evidenced most recently by its opposition to the Giant redevelopment project and by its cancellation of the June elections in violation of its own constitution and of fundamental democratic practices.  With your support, we can lead CPCA into a new era of engagement and dialogue among and between residents, the business community, and the District government.  To meet these goals we will:

  1. Work to increase CPCA membership and participation. Since we began recruiting in May, more than 200 new members have joined. We have also established a CPCA listserve with over 100 members.
  2. Continue to invite guest speakers to the monthly meetings – but record and podcast the events so that those who cannot attend can be involved.
  3. Sponsor web polls, explore web voting, and encourage the use of other electronic communication to ensure the leadership hears and understands all members’ views.
  4. Organize committees focused on issues that members identify as critical to the vitality of our neighborhood, including zoning, traffic, parking, schools, and neighborhood retail businesses.
  5. Honor CPCA’s constitution and bylaws, but review and amend them to make the organization more relevant, efficient, and open to broad participation.
  6. Actively engage business owners as well as residents to develop a more supportive and welcoming voice towards new businesses that want to invest in our community.
  7. Sponsor community-building activities, in partnership with other local organizations, encouraging residents to work together to improve our neighborhood and engage as neighbors and friends.

We believe the CPCA can be a driving force behind a stronger Cleveland Park.  Under our leadership, CPCA will be more than simply lectures to a small group and decision making by an even smaller group. We have a vision for a revitalized CPCA that actively engages its members, encourages their participation, represents their views and strengthens the community in which they live. If you share our vision vote for our slate of candidates on September 29 and elect A New Voice For Cleveland Park.
